ON THE DEATH OF JOHN E. MOSS

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office Of The Vice President

For Immediate Release December 5, 1997
STATEMENT OF THE VICE PRESIDENT
On The Death Of Congressman John Moss

Tipper and I were deeply saddened by the passing of former Congressman John Moss of California. John was not only a colleague in the House of Representatives, he was a trusted friend.

As Chairman of the House Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, John Moss was a champion of consumer issues who helped create the Consumer Product Safety Commission. He was a leader who worked tirelessly to make sure that citizens would always be safe from danger -- at home, on the streets, and in the community. He was a vehement defender of the public interest who searched out and worked to eliminate fraud and abuse at all levels of government.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to John's wife, Jean, and to all of those who were lucky enough to know this truly great American.
